Monsanto ist einer der größten Saatgutkonzerne der Welt und besitzt unter anderem Patente auf gentechnisch verändertes Saatgut und auf Herbizide. Das von Monsanto verkaufte Saatgut ist nur für eine Saison nutzbar und somit muss jedes Jahr neues Saatgut erworben werden. Die Bauern werden abhängig von Monsanto und den gesetzten Preisen, als auch von den Herbiziden, die auf das Saatgut abgestimmt sind. Monsanto hat außerdem bereits versucht, ein Patent auf Schweine anzumelden, die mit dem von ihnen vertriebenen Saatgut gefüttert wurden. Angelehnt an botanische Zeichnungen und Radierungen aus dem 17. Jahrhundert, wurde eine Ätzradierung einer Sojapflanze erstellt. Anstatt die Pflanze mit dem lateinischen Namen zu betiteln, heißt sie RoundupReady Soybeans. Genau so, wie die gentechnisch veränderten Sojapflanzen von Monsanto.

Every year you have to buy new seeds. So farmers are dependent on Monsanto and their set prices, as well as on their herbicides which are especially developed for their seeds. Moreover Monsanto tried to patent pigs that have been fed with their seeds. The etching shows a soy plant. The way it is done reminds you of a botanic drawing/etching from the 17th century. Instead of, as usually, entitling it with the plants Latin name, it is called RoundupReadySoybeans. This is the name of Monsantos genetically manipulated soy bean seeds.
